Thanks to our long-term partnership with the Czech Chamber of Chartered Engineers and Technicians Engaged in Construction, we were offered the opportunity to deliver a lecture at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň.
The lecture, on the topic of Impregnation (Chemical Protection) of Structural Timber”, was intended for Civil Engineering students and was part of the Wooden Structures II module headed by Ing. Luděk Vejvara, Ph.D.
We informed students of why they shouldn’t underestimate the importance of pest prevention (insects, fungus, mould) in new builds and rebuilds of timber and other structures, starting from the design stage. We then explained the elements that should be taken into account when choosing impregnation agents, which factors influence impregnation quality and the latest trends concerning the chemical preservation of timber. We tied it all in with our own practical examples and experience garnered across 50 years in the field.
Students graduating in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň will have gained a comprehensive education in building construction, guiding them in the fields of independent design, construction security and building utilisation. They will be able to apply these skills in the areas of building planning, design, preparation and construction, and in the production of building materials. We firmly believe that they will find our information useful in their future careers.
